Tube Tapering Machine Sourcing for Romania: Drawing Review, Test and Container Loading

This project started with a steel-tube drawing, not a machine catalog. A Romanian buyer needed to turn straight round tube into a long tapered component for a furniture-related application. The workpiece had to reduce from a larger outside diameter to a much smaller end over most of its length.

What the Romanian buyer needed

The buyer was producing a long tapered tube that could be used as a table leg, chair leg or similar metal furniture component. A standard hydraulic tube-end reducer was not automatically suitable because the reduced section in this drawing was unusually long. The machine needed enough working length and matching tooling to form a gradual profile rather than a short stepped reduction.

The supplied part drawing showed:

  • Starting outside diameter: Ø25 mm.
  • Tube wall thickness: 2 mm.
  • Overall tube length: 450 mm.
  • Long formed section: 400 mm.
  • Small-end outside diameter: Ø12.5 mm.

The drawing was the basis for discussing machine capacity and mold design. It did not, by itself, specify material grade, diameter tolerance, roundness, surface finish or acceptable transition geometry. Those items need to be stated separately when the finished tube must fit another component or meet a visible furniture finish.

Why we selected a ZS-60 tube tapering machine

The proposed equipment was a ZS-60. Overseas buyers use several names for this machine: tube tapering machine, pipe reducing machine, tube swaging machine and tube end forming machine. For this project, “tube tapering and reducing machine” was the clearest description because the required part had a long change in diameter rather than a threaded or cut end.

The 420 mm reducing length was particularly relevant because the drawing called for a 400 mm formed section. Capacity still had to be considered as a combination of tube diameter, wall thickness, material strength, reduction ratio and mold profile. A maximum value printed in a specification sheet is not a guarantee for every material and shape.

Matching the mold to the tube drawing

The machine document made one practical point clear: different tube sizes require different molds. This matters when a buyer has a family of furniture legs that look similar but use several starting diameters or finished profiles.

For each part, the supplier needs the starting tube, finished drawing and material details. A useful tooling review should cover:

  • Original outside diameter and wall thickness.
  • Welded or seamless tube construction.
  • Material grade and hardness.
  • Finished small-end diameter.
  • Taper length and any straight reduced section.
  • Transition radius at both ends of the taper.
  • Diameter, roundness and surface tolerances.
  • Whether the visible surface will be painted, plated or polished.
  • Required production quantity and mold life expectation.
Without this information, two suppliers may quote machines that sound similar while including different tooling or making different assumptions about the finished part.

The supplier ran a steel tube through the machine before shipment. The video records the operator feeding the tube into the forming opening and the ZS-60 working around the tube as the long reduced profile was produced.

The test video is useful because it shows the real machine operating with a tube instead of only showing an empty workshop unit. It confirms the basic feeding and forming sequence. Final acceptance should go further by measuring the sample against the approved drawing, checking the full length for straightness, recording the small-end diameter and reviewing the surface for cracking, deep marks or excessive weld-seam distortion.

For a repeat order, we would recommend agreeing the measuring tools and inspection points before the sample is made. A clear acceptance record is more useful than a general statement that the machine “works well.”

Wooden-case packing before export

After the workshop test and configuration follow-up, the machine was prepared in a full wooden case. The outside of the case was photographed at the warehouse, including the MAVORIX identification label.

For this type of heavy metalworking machine, packing is more than closing a plywood box. The base should support the machine at its structural mounting points, and the machine must be fixed against rolling, sliding or tipping. Molds, tools and loose accessories should be separately identified and secured so they cannot strike the machine in transit.

Moisture protection, lifting points, center of gravity and unloading method also need attention. The buyer should know whether a forklift, crane or container unloading platform will be available at destination before the packing plan is finalized.

This final loading record connects the project stages: the drawing relates to the test part, the test video relates to the actual machine type, the wooden case records export preparation, and the container photo records shipment loading. Keeping that chain is useful when an overseas buyer cannot attend the factory or warehouse in person.

What buyers should send for a pipe reducing machine quotation

The phrase “pipe reducing machine” is too broad for an accurate quotation. Buyers should send:

  • Tube drawing and a photo of the finished part if one exists.
  • Starting outside diameter, wall thickness and total length.
  • Tube material grade, hardness and weld condition.
  • Finished diameter, taper length and transition shape.
  • Critical tolerances and inspection method.
  • Number of different part sizes and required mold sets.
  • Quantity per size and target pieces per hour.
  • Site voltage, frequency and phase.
  • Required controls, guarding and conformity documents.
  • Spare tooling and wear-part requirements.
  • Destination, unloading method and packing requirement.
This information helps separate a suitable long-profile tube tapering machine from a short-stroke tube-end former or another swaging process that does not match the part.
